Tell a Friend

 A little bit about Lora:

I was an extremely shy child. I found solace in books and daydreaming.  Books were my most loyal friends and my imagination was my playground. Although I was always making up stories, it wasn’t until my mid-thirties that I committed these stories to paper. I’ve always preferred to spend a great deal of time by myself. When asked what my dream job would be I would say, “To work in a cave making widgets.” Now I realize writing is a great deal more fun and infinitely more satisfying that widget production.

Who is your target audience?

I know women typically read romances but my target audience is anyone who has gone through the struggle of exploring who they really are and finding the courage to express it. Of course, any one who has had their heartbroken or has searched for love would also relate to Hannah.

When did you start writing?

Growing up I always wrote poetry and short stories for school assignments but I didn’t pick up writing again until I was an adult and finally gave myself permission to follow my secret passion.

"The longer you choose to play it safe, the more miserable your life will become. The universe rewards risk my dear; you know what you need to do."

Hannah Morgan’s life is at a standstill. Her dreams of becoming an artist vanished with the sudden death of her grandmother and mentor. To appease her distant and disapproving mother, Hannah gets a respectable job at a high-end day spa. Instead of painting masterpieces, Hannah spends her days painting nails and giving facials to wealthy women. Her dreams for the future have become a hideous nightmare. And it just keeps getting worse. She catches her boyfriend cheating, loses her job, and has to watch from the sidelines as her best friend, Jasmine Blue, goes after her own dreams of owning her own salon.

Then she meets Aaron, a working artist, and finds in him a kindred spirit. And, to her surprise, she finds the courage to follow her dreams. When circumstances beyond her control threaten to destroy both her relationship with Aaron and her dreams of a bright future, Hannah fears her mother was right—that some dreams aren’t meant to come true.

Been a great pair of days for contributor copies! Yesterday, I got my copies of The Sigurd Journal - in which you can find my short memoir, Beacon. And today... oh today... I got my copy of Ruins Metropolis!! It's a beautiful thing!

Can't wait to sit down with it and actually read it!

Every once in a while, I come across something in my wanderings that I drool over - something I itch to possess.  Today, that something is in french (so I apologise for those uninclined to attempt it)...  I want this book...

Ysambre    Tell me this doesn't look absolutely gorgeous...

What I wouldn't give to be able to draw and paint like that - so beautiful, so rich, so detailed. I don't know as I'd ever want to trade my pen for a paintbrush but it must be awesome to be so gifted.

Crazyhorse is six. He's bright, sometimes I think he's too bright for my own good. Right now, he's reading the second Harry Potter book. It's a double edged sword for me. I'm thrilled he's reading at that level - even better, he's comprehending at that level. But, I have some issues with the entire Harry Potter series. It may well be a good story but it fell to the hands of a mediocre at best writer and one heck of a pr firm. I have to admit, I'm hoping he loses interest in Harry at the end of this book. He's only six and the story gets so dark from here... I guess we'll just have to wait and see how he reacts to the end of this book.

I think the worst part of his desire to read the potter series is that I had to read them first. I'm glad I did or I wouldn't know to tread carefully. I'm one of those horribly *involved* moms. I read everything before I let him, unless it was recommended by my kind bookman or librarian. When he's finished with this book, I'm going to try and tempt him with books in a similar vein that aren't as dark. Chronicles of Narnia, A Wrinkle in Time, The Indian in the Cupboard, Treasure Island. Books like that.

I'd also like to ask for recommendations from the community at large - what's out there that is good for a boy who happens to be six but reads like he's ten and actually does understand what he's reading.
