so, there's this story up at the Lorelei Signal. In a lot of ways, it relates to the novel I'm pitching. Especially if you want to know how the palace in Kaihahn came to be or gain a little insight into Vastim.

If you're interested, you can read it here: The Lorelei Signal in the current issue. Read the whole issue and be sure to vote!

Hope you enjoy it!

So, after the crazy month of nonworking, I'm back to writing. It was the longest stretch I've had in about three or four years, maybe more than that. I'm not sure. I do know it's been a really LONG time since I had such a run of nonwriting. I haven't gotten much done today of course, given Crazyhorse's issues, but the last few days- I think six maybe? I've been really working again and it feels SO nice to get back to doing what I love doing. This project is a little weird, and a lot fun. My first draft is being posted to my crit group as I go, and I'm getting some great insight that will help when I sit down next month to revise. But, from what I can tell right now, the first draft and the second draft will be completely different. I need to work at getting the atmosphere a little better (ok a lot) and work in the tech more seamlessly but I'm trying for something a little different (at least for me!) I'm attempting to mix two subgenres of my favorite genre. Cyberpunk and Steampunk - by definition I'm not sure they can coexist but it's great fun to try! I'm really looking forward to seeing how it ends...

It needs research, it needs atmosphere, but it has neat gadgets and neat sociological, political, and global elements. Basically, I'm having more fun with my writing than I have since February when I was working on HH. It's nice to come home and now- I'm off until all the kids are sleeping. or at least in their beds.

First round of HH edits are done and away! Part of me knows that five days isn't really that long for something like this but I feel like it took forever! I just hope everyone in the process likes the changes I made.

But - a milestone reached. My first round of my first whole book editing process is complete and I'm a damned happy girl tonight!

It's nice to have a good day once in a while!  The great people over at Espresso Fiction have accepted my short story, In the Midnight Hour, to run on July 29, 2008. I really like this story and am thrilled it found a home.

In other news - I'm working hard on the edits for Hardwired Humanity and only have one more story to go - granted it's the long one and I've got some heavy rewrites to do but I have help too - Hubster was a US Marine and has been helping me with some of my more military aspects of this particular story. He's rarely had the time to help me but this process happened to come in on his long weekend and he's spent hours. HOURS. making sure my details are right. One of the many reasons I love him to pieces.

It's been a good day... maybe it will be a continuing trend. I have a lot of work out that I should hear about by or on August first. This month will end with a bang or a whimper but it will not be boring.

Flashing Swords Summer Special Edition is available now with my story, Moronar's Chosen.

Ruins Metropolis is available now and contains my story, The Tomb of  Setankan.

Untitled for now but it has some interesting potential... got about 1800 words in today which isn't bad seeing as I've had a fussy, won't sleep in his own bed for some unknown inexplicable reason baby. I don't know what, exactly, it's going to be length wise. I'm not worried about it though. I'm just going to write it out, see where it goes, how it ends, and then figure out the rest. Of course, by that time, I guess I'll know what it is. Anyway - so far it's fun. I've been searching for Cole's story for a LONG time and now that I know he's a DeRe to boot, I know his whole family history. Lots and Lots of fun. Someday, I'll polish up Orianah and Julian's stories too - since they are where the whole line comes from. I'm considering threading some of the family history in - given the political ties in the story. I have no idea where this is going or anything but I'm having fun on the path!

I found my mudpie... and it turns out - it's probably a novel. Been floating pieces of this project for a long time, and now, I see them coming together, the family history, the current lineage, the plot, the setting, the staging. It's either a novel - or a series of short stories. Either way, more work then I really wanted right now but really - better too much than not enough... am going to see how fast I can pound it out to draft.

In other news - got a wicked fast rejection from Poetry Magazine. Love their new automated system - makes it a lot faster. Figured it would be a rejection but was holding on to my narcissistic hopelight just in case...
