THis week was not so good in terms of production. Between the storm, the power outages, the fact that CrazyHorse was out of school everyday but Monday, the fact that Hubster's long weekend just happened to coincide, SteelerNation Mania decended upon my house, and Wolverine was being clingy. But, I did manage some words, just not what I've become accustomed to. So: words for the week: 7089 Words for the year to date: 43637 Even if I'd hit my weekly goal, I wouldn't have hit the 50k I really wanted but, that's the way it works... 2008 - the year of the rat - was an interesting year... On one hand, one of the best to date, but the lows this year were damned scary. CrazyHorse in the hospital with pneumonia. Wolverine and his constant battle with the skin issues (we’re taking him to a dermatologist after the holidays see if we can’t find SOMETHING to help him). Ambulance for me and my bee sting (but this was good as it was minor and forced me to actually go to the doctor and I now have my epipen). Hubster got his promotion. We’re starting to catch up with everything even though our ideal dream is probably twenty years away – we want a farm with horses and pigs and cows and assorted yummies.
On the writing side of things - this was my best year to date! I did a complete revision on Thosha Tol - needs another before I start sending it out. I wrote a complete rough on Purgatory’s Queen. I sold my short story collection, Hardwired Humanity. I have no idea how many words I wrote - as I’m horrible at keeping track. I can’t even tell you how many stories or poems I wrote this year.
My stats were OK. Didn’t hit my goals but I’d been expecting to have Thosha ready to query too and that didn’t happen. I did, however, send 121 submissions out. With 13 acceptances and 90 rejections and an acceptance rate of 10.74%. No where near my goals but maybe next year. (there are still submissions out there of course so those numbers will eventually change).
Short fiction accepted in 2008: Switch (Hardwired Humanity), Venus and the Birth Of Zephyrus (Hardwired Humanity), When Closed Eyes Open (Hardwired Humanity), The Wreck of the Griffin (Hardwired Humanity), Canned Man (Hardwired Humanity), Evolution of a Shadow (Hardwired Humanity), Moronar’s Chosen (Flashing Swords Summer Special*), Scabs (Everyday Fiction), Left Behind (Anthology Builder), In the Midnight Hour (Espresso Fiction), Fireworks (Abandoned Towers),
Poems accepted in 2008: The Man I Never Knew (Peeks and Valleys), Trinity (Sounds of the Night), Tomb of the Ancient Goddess (Big Pulp), Soul Scrapbook (Big Pulp), Crow Queen (Aoiffe’s Kiss*), Tryst (Oysters & Chocolate), Dambala (Niteblade), Resurrection (Mirror Dance), Symbiosis (Mirror Dance), Seduka (Mirror Dance)
Nonfiction accepted in 2008: My Mother’s Playbook (Things My Mother Taught Me), Beacon (The Sigurd Journal), * Markets on my most wanted list for 2008
I've only really been keeping good records since 2004 but it shows a lovely trend - it does!
Year / Total Submissions / Total Acceptances / Total Rejections / Still Under Consideration / Acceptance Rate 2004 80 8 72 0 10.00% 2005 123 13 110 0 10.57% 2006 90 9 81 0 10.00% 2007 207 25 181 0 12.08% 2008 121 13 90 18 10.74% Total 621 68 534 18 10.95%
Factor in that I had a baby in 2006 (which is why the numbers are so low for that year...) I'm not doing too bad. Could be better. It could always be better but Next Year may have some surprises in store for me and my database... Tags: 2008, statistics

September wasn't the greatest month but I wasn't really in the greatest moods either. That tends to effect everything - though, my rejections this month came mostly from the 'big' markets and were, quite honestly, expected. But, if I never try, I'll never know. So I keep trying.... January 19 submissions sent, 3 accepted, 15 rejected, 1 still out February: 6 submissions sent, 0 accepted, 6 rejected, 0 still out March: 12 submissions sent, 1 accepted, 10 rejected, 1 still out April: 10 submissions sent, 2 accepted, 7 rejected, 1 still out May: 14 submissions sent, 1 accepted, 11 rejected, 2 still out June: 12 submissions sent, 1 accepted, 8 rejected, 3 still out July: 14 submissions sent, 0 accepted, 9 rejected, 5 still out August: 6 submissions sent, 1 accepted, 4 rejected, 1 still out September: 6 submissions sent, 0 accepted, 5 rejected, 1 still out Total 2008: 99 submissions sent, 9 accepted, 75 rejected, 15 still out 2007 - only one still out and I'm about to give up on that one... last I heard, I was supposed to hear in August. May query this month - we'll see. Tags: statistics

I've been posting my submissions stats for a long time now and I still can't believe I forgot to post last month's! Usually it's something I do on the first! Granted, I've been crazy busy but I still should have remembered.

April was a great month for me all around. For one, I got Ender. I found two four leaf clovers (pics have been placed in gallery). I was quite productive with Thosha, did a proof, a line-edit (with a woman who I think is one of THE best editors I've ever worked with), and generally had a rocking month.
Submission statistics:
January 2008: 19 Submissions sent, 3 Accepted, 9 Rejected, 7 Still out February 2008: 6 submission sent, 0 accepted, 4 rejected, 2 still out March 2008: 12 Submissions sent, 1 accepted, 5 rejected, 6 still out April 2008: 10 submissions sent, 1 accepted, 0 rejected, 9 still out Total 2008: 47 submissions sent, 5 accepted, 18 rejected, 24 still out Total 2007: 207 submissions sent, 24 accepted, 171 rejected, 12 still out
Things are going pretty good right about now!

March was a mixed bag. On the home front - great things happened. On the writing front - great progress was made. On the publishing front, however, it was not so nice...
